Time Adds Up

2018, three-channel generative video installation.
Premiered at the Art Workers Guild in London, UK, September 5-7, 2018

Time Adds Up consists of three video portraits—my niece, my grandfather-in-law, and my wife. These portraits in time unfold live, modulated by image compositing algorithms that I crafted using my open source video and sound processing tools, Aconite and Flocking. Each portrait is composed from stacked layers of looped footage playing out of phase with each other, forming a slowly shifting motion collage of the person. These videos highlight the particularity of each subject's movements over time, and reflect on the ways that the camera and computational processes transform presence and memory, in time and light.
